 Registered nurses care for patients who are ill or injured.  Nurses work with patients in hospitals, in doctors' offices, and in nursing homes.  Hospital nurses observe patients and carry out medical treatments.

 Nurses in Tulsa,OK earn around $28.66 an hour.  Wages vary by employer. For example, hospital nurses tend to earn more than nurses in doctors' offices.  Typical benefits include paid vacation, sick leave, and health insurance. Many employers also offer child care, education benefits, and bonuses.

 You need to know Communication, reasoning and Problem Solving, and being able to Manage Oneself, People, Time, and Things.  Notice when something is wrong or is likely to go wrong.  Concentrate and not be distracted while performing a task.

 Growth in this occupation will be due in part to technological advances that allow more medical problems to be treated.  The number of jobs in hospital nursing is expected to grow more slowly than in other settings.  Qualified RNs should have many job opportunities.

 Medicine and Dentistry: Knowledge of injuries, illnesses, and defects. Also includes the knowledge of setting up a plan for treatment.  Biology: Knowledge of plants, animals, and living organisms and how they function.  Mathematics: Knowledge of the rules and uses of numbers. Areas of knowledge include arithmetic, algebra, geometry, and statistics.

 Helpful electives to take in high school that prepare you for this occupation include:  Anatomy and Physiology  Computer Applications  Health Education

 See differences between colors, shades, and brightness.  Use muscles to lift, push, pull, or carry heavy objects.  Use stomach and lower back muscles to support the body for long periods without getting tired.

 Perform routine laboratory and office work.  Examine patients on the way to the hospital or at disaster sites.  Prepare patients and assist with exams.
