Module I: Three Types of Stress Objectives In this module the learner will be introduced to the three types of stress, eustress, neustress, and distress. At the end of this module: In this module the learner will be introduced to the three types of stress, eustress, neustress, and distress. At the end of this module: –The learners will identify occurrences in their lives where these types of stresses occurred in the past during group discussion. –Given a description of the three types of stress, learners will define the three types of stress on a quiz with 100% accuracy, or 3/3.

Three Types of Stress Definitions What is stress? What is stress? –“Inability to cope with a perceived (real or imagined) threat to one’s mental, physical, emotional, and spiritual well being, which results in a series of physiological responses and adaptations ” (Seaward, 2004, p. 4). –The key is the word perceived.

Three Types of Stress Definitions Eustress Eustress –Good stress, occurs when someone is in a situation that they find motivating, inspiring, and enjoyable. Examples: Getting married, falling in love, buying a house Examples: Getting married, falling in love, buying a house

Three Types of Stress Definitions Neustress Neustress –An occurrence that has no direct effect on the person, so it is seen as neither good nor bad. Example: A natural disaster in another country. Example: A natural disaster in another country.
