TIA TR-45 Standards Work Program on Location Based Services Presented by: Cheryl Blum Lucent Technologies

Location Based Services  TIA-881 »Wireless network capabilities that enable deployment of commercial Location Services (LCS)  Wireless service provider LCS  LCS applications external to the wireless network  MS-based services »LCS applications can query for MS position  latitude, longitude, altitude, velocity  application requests Position Quality of Service –accuracy, response time, position age, priority

Location Based Services  TIA-881 »Wireless network provides an estimate of the Target MS’s geographic position  Position estimate is represented as a shape –The shape represents the uncertainty of the MS position –A number of different shapes can be selected according to need  e.g., ellipsoid point with uncertainty, ellipsoid point with altitude and uncertainty  Velocity may be used to describe the speed and bearing of the Target MS –e.g., horizontal velocity with uncertainty  All position estimates indicate the time the position information was obtained

Location Based Services  TIA-881 »Supports non-call related location services  Position can be obtained for an idle MS, –CDMA Assisted Global Positioning System (AGPS) only  or for an MS that has started a call »Supports call-related location services  Request for geographic position applicable only during call

Location Based Services  TIA-881 »User privacy protection  Location Information Restriction (LIR) enables the MS subscriber to restrict presentation of the Target MS’s position only to authorized entities –Emergency services take precedence over LIR »TIA-881 builds on the network architecture developed for J-STD-036  Enhanced Wireless Phase 2 »TIA-881 published March 2004

Location Based Services  TIA-843 »Wireless Intelligent Network (WIN) capabilities for commercial Location Services (LCS)  Intelligent Network application can use the MS’s location information to provide enhanced subscriber services  Builds on TIA-881 network capabilities »Call related LCS “triggered” by WIN call processing triggers

Location Based Services  TIA-843 »Non-call related LCS “triggered” by non-call events  New capabilities enable LCS applications to request automatic notification of changes in registration status and active/inactive status of Target MS –MS moves to a new system –MS moves to a new service area within a system –MS powers up –MS powers down or leaves a system –….  LCS application can query for Target MS position when an MS change occurs

Location Based Services  TIA-843 »Location Based WIN Service Drivers  Fleet and Asset Management –enables the location of an MS to be tracked  Location Based Charging –wireless subscriber charged different rates for services based on the MS location  Location Based Information Services –allows subscribers to access information services for which the information is tailored based on MS location  e.g., roadside assistance, hotel and restaurant locator  Enhanced Call Routing –calls routed to appropriate destination based on MS position  e.g., #GAS call routed to nearest gas station »TIA-843 completed – to be published June 2004
