Photo Story 3 Importing Pictures

When you create a new Photo Story, the first thing that you will do is import pictures. You can import pictures from your computer, or a network folder. For each story, you can import up to 300 pictures.

Importing Pictures Simply select the Import Images button. When the dialog comes up, it is helpful to switch to thumbnail view so that you can see the images easily that you would like to add. This is useful when importing similarly- named images such as those taken with a digital camera.

Importing Pictures When the dialog comes up, it is helpful to switch to thumbnail view so that you can see the images easily that you would like to add. On the All Files tab, click the folder in which your pictures are located. Select one or more pictures, and then click OK.

Importing Pictures Holding down the Control key allows you to select multiple images. Once you've selected the images you want, hit ok. Your pictures appear in the film strip at the bottom of the page. If you import more pictures, Photo Story adds them at the end of the film strip.

Importing Pictures To view the pictures in the film strip, use the scroll bar located below the strip. You are now ready to arrange your pictures. To move a picture, select its thumbnail in the timeline, and click the left or right arrow. Left and Right Arrows

Editing Pictures You have the ability to select the slide that you wish to edit, and then make adjustments to the image using the icons below the large preview. Correct Color Levels Red Eye Reduction Rotate Image

Editing Pictures Other, more advanced edits can be made by clicking the Edit button. Edit Button

Correcting Color Levels Sometimes the color levels in an image are less than ideal. The first way is a single- click correction on the Import and Arrange Your Pictures dialog. Pressing the "Correct Color Levels" button

Correcting Color Levels An alternative way is by pressing the Edit... button and selecting the Auto Fix tab. After selecting Auto Color Levels you will have a richer image.

Rotating Pictures If you find the need to rotate your images you can quickly fix this by pressing the rotate arrows as many times as necessary. Rotate Left and Right

Cropping A Picture Cropping is done by pressing the Edit button. You will be presented a preview of the slide you are working with. Make sure the Crop checkbox is checked.

Cropping A Picture You will see a movable, and sizable cropping box appear. Grab the anchors and size and position this box to capture the part of the image that is of interest. Once you finish, hit save and close. The new cropped image will appear

Adding Titles and Effects Photo Story allows you to dress up your photos a bit by supplying Effects that can be applied to the images. For example, you might want to theme your story as an Old West story. Using an effect can also make a title on a picture stand out more.

Adding Titles and Effects Type the text that you wish to appear in the caption of your picture in the box on the right.

Adding Titles and Effects Notice the icons above. You can change the position of the text using these buttons. Font face and color (something that you will likely need to change to make sure the text is easily visible) can be changed with the Font button. Change Font Left, Center, Right Justify Top, Middle or Bottom Justify

Narrating Pictures To narrate your story, decide what you want to say. If you need notes, you can type in the note box provided. Once you're ready to begin, press the record button and begin speaking. Record button Stop button Delete narration and try again

Narrating Pictures You can record up to five minutes of narration for each picture in your video story. You can narrate the pictures in any order you want.

Narrating Pictures If you do not like the narration for a picture, you can delete the narration and record it again. Deleting the narration does not delete any of the other enhancements made to your story, such as changing a transition.

Narrating Pictures Each time you record you will see the box above. Simply, click no and start to record your narration.

Customizing Motion By default, Photo Story will automatically chose the motion that your pictures will have. However, you can easily customize this motion to focus on whatever you would like in your image. Customize Motion button

Customizing Motion Think about the story that you will be telling. Do you want to reveal certain parts of the image as the story unfolds, or are you simply providing a more interesting view of your picture.

Customizing Motion In the Customize Motion dialog box, select the Specify start and end position of motion check box.

Move and resize the boxes to show how you want to start and end the slide. This can be used for great dramatic effect. Use the preview button to see how it will look. Click Save to save the motion and duration changes you made.

Transitions Photo Story also gives you the ability to choose what transitions you'd like to have between slides. You will be shown the previous picture, the current picture, and a preview of what the transition will look like. By default, Photo Story automatically inserts a cross fade transition between slides.

Transitions Click on the Transition tab to change the default settings. Remember to preview the changes and click save

Adding Music Music helps add emotion to your story. Like transitions, it is important that you choose music that is appropriate to the story you want to tell. Heavy music is probably not a good choice for a wedding story, and calm, tranquil music is likely not a good choice for a story about the Vietnam War.

Adding Music If you need something to add a consistent tie between your slides, you can use a single song to do this. You are not, however, limited to one song per story. You can add as many songs as there are slides in your story. Please think twice before you try it.

Adding Music To select the music for your story, select a picture. Then select a piece of music to start playing when the picture is displayed in your story. Select the picture that will be the starting point for the music You can choose any picture to start the music

Adding Music The picture you select is the anchor image, and indicates where you want the music to start playing. The anchor image is indicated by a musical note displayed beneath the picture in the film strip.

Adding Music The music you select plays until one of the following events occurs: The music ends. An anchor image that specifies a new piece of music be played is encountered. The story ends. A new piece of music is starting on this slide

Adding Music You can replace a piece of music for an anchor image by selecting a different piece of music or by dragging a music file onto the anchor image in the film strip. If the anchor image is deleted from the story, the music and any other customizations associated with the anchor image are also deleted from the story. To delete the music click on the anchor image and click Delete Music

Previewing Your Story A nice feature of Photo Story is that you can preview your story to see what it will look like in the final output. If changes need to be made you can use the Previous and Next buttons at the bottom of the wizard to go back and make corrections. Preview Button

Saving Your Story To save your story select Save your story for playback on your computer. This will allow you to send the assignment to me.

Saving Your Story Click on BROWSE to select My Documents so you can save the story in the proper place.

Saving Your Story Make sure you select My Documents. In the file name line include the name of the assignment, your first and last name and your room number.

You are finished!
