OVERVIEW OF MAPS  Go to the NRMPS homepage  Go to Staff – Sign in  Go to Departments  Choose the appropriate grade level  If Elementary go to Common Core State Standards ( ) then you will have access to maps  If Middle and High go to Common Core and NC Essential Standards Curriculum Maps then you will have access to maps.

Math  Major work for the grade is posted on site. (k-12) teachers need to be familiar with grade below and above their grade level (do not try to cover the book)  8 practices common to all grades These are student behaviors not teacher behaviors.  Resources are behind the 1st six weeks' maps for each grade for math

Social Studies Disciplinary Literacy  Anchored in the specifics of individual disciplines  Each discipline has its own unique knowledge core and its own ways of inquiring, investigating, reasoning, representing, and forming driving questions in a particular field. Concept-based teaching -A concept is an organizing idea; a mental construct...  Timeless  Universal  Abstract (to different degrees)  Represented by 1 or 2 words  Examples share common attributes

Integrative Learning  Social studies is an integrative process that brings together the disciplines of history, geography, civics, and economics, as appropriate, to inform a topic of study.  Using reading, writing, listening, and speaking processes to create meaning and shared understandings of social studies is essential for authentic learning.  Through social studies students develop the ability to think analytically, logically, and creatively, and to integrate experience and knowledge to form reasoned judgments and solve problems in an increasingly complex world.
