WHAT IS CLOUD COMPUTING?

What is Cloud Computing? “Cloud computing is a general term for anything that involves delivering hosted services over the Internet. These services are broadly divided into three categories: Infrastructure-as-a-Service (IaaS), Platform-as-a-Service (PaaS) and Software-as-a-Service (SaaS). The name cloud was inspired by the symbol that's often used to represent the Internet in flowcharts and diagrams (Rouse, n.a.)” “Cloud computing is a general term for anything that involves delivering hosted services over the Internet. WHY WAS CLOUD COMPUTING MADE?

The idea of an “intergalactic computer network was introduced in the sixties by J.C.R Licklider, who was responsible for enabling the development of the ARPANET (Advanced Research Projects Agency Network) in 1969 (Mohamed, n.a.). His vision was for everyone on the globe to be inter connected and accessing programs and data at any site, from anywhere (Lewis, n.a.) HOW DID THEY DO IT?

WHAT ARE SOME EXAMPLES OF CLOUD COMPUTING?

What are the examples of cloud computing? MS Office Online (MS Word, Excel, Power point, One Note Google Drive Apple iCloud Amazon Cloud Drive Chromebook Chrome Bits (Coming out soon)

WHAT ARE THE USES OF CLOUD COMPUTING?

3 Uses of Cloud Computing These three uses allows users to run applications and store data online. 1. Software as a Service or SaaS - This use allows users to run exciting applications online. 2. Platform as a Service or PaaS - This use allows users to create their own cloud applications using supplier specific tools and languages. 3. Infrastructure as a Service or IaaS - This use allows users to run any application they want on cloud hardware of their own choice.

WHAT ARE THE BENEFITS OF CLOUD COMPUTING?

What are the benefits of Cloud Computing to education? There are many uses and benefits to cloud computing in the field of education. Ms. Gail Staines gives 5 practical benefits: No more carrying around devices A few years back, we needed an array of devices to store our work. We used USBs, CDs, and so much more. Yet, we had to worry about our files getting corrupted, our devices contracting viruses, or even losing the said device. But now, with cloud computing, we do not need to worry about these things anymore. Easy access Since the internet is very accessible, especially to the ones who live in urban places, school files such as power points, word documents, excel files, PDF files, etc. can be opened and downloaded with ease.

Security Anything you share in the cloud usually requires authentication, mostly as an ID & Password system. This allows the user a much greater security of work because it doesn't allow just anyone to open your files. Collaboration With cloud computing, collaboration between students regarding projects has become easier. Students don't have to meet outside of school or their homes to discuss about their project. Now, they can sit back and relax at the comfort of their rooms and talk about their project. Good-bye copier! Since most of the files are being sent into the cloud, there's no need to print or to copy. It uses less paper, conserves the environment, and saves us from paper jams and other printer-related problems.

HOW DO WE MAXIMIZE THE USE OF CLOUD COMPUTING?

How to Maximize the Use of Cloud Computing in the Classroom: Cloud Computing, with all its benefits, will make education very convenient, both for the teacher and the learner. Fortunately, our school has already integrated Cloud Computing in our learning experience. Here's some of the ways we maximize the use of Cloud Computing: Upload files in Internet-based sites Our school is already using portals such as Genyo and Edmodo. By using them frequently, we can maximize the use of cloud computing. No need to worry about not having a copy. Use of s or other cloud computing-based programs for sharing files By using these programs, we can minimize the use of paper. Also, these files can be accessed many times and can be easily sent, no need to worry if it was sent or not.
