Discuss Leadership/Activity Leaders will run this part of the class (10 minutes to form your groups based on pictures each student brought)

Understanding Power and Control and their impact! How did it feel to be in charge? How did it feel to come to the party? How did it feel to be left out? Was leadership challenged? If so, what happened? In this game, who had the power and control? In what ways were they used?

Application and analysis View the “Power” and “Respect” Wheels Through knowledge gained today and through knowledge gained from reading Chapters 2 and 3 of LTF, find examples of how and why Ralph and Jack were chosen as leaders and Piggy was not. (stay in the groups that have been formed) 10 minutes Discuss

TWO WOLVES – A CHEROKEE STORY One evening an old Cherokee told his grandson about a battle that goes on inside people. He said, “My son, the battle is between two “wolves” inside us all. One is EVIL. It is anger, envy, sorrow, jealousy, regret, greed, arrogance, self-pity, guilt, resentment, inferiority, lies, false pride, superiority, and ego. The other is GOOD. It is joy, peace, love, hope, serenity, humility, truth, generosity, benevolence, empathy, kindness, compassion, and faith.” The grandson thought about it for a minute and then asked his grandfather, “Which wolf wins?” The old Cherokee simply replied, “The one you feed.”

Journal….. Based on the story of the wolves/Cherokee—discuss how this applies to the boys’ and their characteristics. Answer in order these four questions: Cause/Effect What is the issue between the boys (Ralph/Jack/Piggy)? What causes these issues? What is the effect? What do you think will happen?
