We tried:  To find the roots of the tradition;  To compare the ways of celebrating this holiday throughout the years;  To prove that this tradition is worth being in future. Aim – presentation of the tradition of celebrating Maslenitsa

Maslenitsa is an old tradition which people began to celebrate in the 10 th century. The date of this holiday is not certain. It is usually hold at the end of February or at the beginning of March to see winter off and goes on during one week. It has always been associated with lots of food and fun, because after this week ? Started and people had to keep a special diet and rules of behaviour.

It happened so that we, our generation, knew very little about this holiday. Only some facts from its history reached our time. They are: eating pancakes with honey or caviar and burning the scarecrow. Thursday – men show their strength in fights; Friday - mother-in-law comes to son-in-law to thank; Saturday – a woman meets husband’s relatives; Sunday – burn the scarecrow, forgive everybody. But it turned out that the celebration of this holiday is more complicated and interesting Here are the activities of the whole week: Monday – finish up building the hills, cook pancakes; Tuesday – start riding from the hills; Wednesday – begin to eat heavily, son-in-law comes to mother-in-law;

But recently the visits to relatives and fights on the river Yenisey enriched the cultural tradition of the city Krasnoyarsk. We are sure that further development of such great tradition as Maslenitsa will go on. Who knows, may be, we’ll see the real picture of old Russia thanks to keeping this tradition.

Reasons to keep this tradition for future: 1. With the help of this tradition we can see the real character of people; 2. It will be very useful to keep family relationships; 3. People will learn how to forgive each other; 4. people will have a chance to relax, have fun; 5. Poor people will have an opportunity to have real meal.
