We are going to play ‘categorically speaking’ This is a game that tests creative thinking and teamwork You will be given a game card The idea of the game is to come up with things that match the categories. It scores as follows: 0 points for a wrong or blank answer 1 point for an answer that other people have 5 points for a unique answer (one that other people didn’t get)

NASA have decided to send a new probe to Europa The probe needs to the measure the following : MUSTSHOULDCOULD air temperature air pressure wind speed take photographs record video ice temperature ice structure atmosphere composition radiation levels magnetic field Seismic events You will need to find out what scientific units (there may be more than one) the variables above will be measured in and what type of instruments would be used on the probe. You will need to research this using the internet. You have a time limit of 15 minutes to report back

What sensors are on the curiosity rover?

Teams have to build science packages that do all the work when the probe is on the moon or planet. Watch the movie about Europa. You will have to research the variables that we looked at earlier for the moon Europa.

Space probes have to survive the harsh conditions of space The components on board can be very sensitive to the environment around them – electronic components are the most sensitive. Engineers have to design special protection for the space probe from harsh conditions. Watch the videos on space probes and make a list of all the different things that engineers have to design a space probe to survive.

Electronics components are very sensitive Look at the components below and identify them:
