A Brief Presentation Created By Patrizio Antonio Peluso

What is a VLE A VLE is a Virtual Learning Environment. It is also known as an online learning space.

What are some of the benefits of a VLE? Extends the school day. Makes learning accessible to all students. Connects teachers, parents, and students. Is modeled after social networking platforms.

Can be set up in one afternoon. Can serve as an e-portfolio of student work. Can be used in any grade level, any subject area.

What can a VLE be used for? Collaborating on projects. Digitally assigning homework, tests, quizzes etc. Digitally storing student work. Communication between parents and teachers.

Communication between students and teachers. Communication between students. Collaborative work space for students to work on projects. File sharing space. Online grade book.

Benefits of VLE for students Provides a collaborative learning and sharing space. Provides a place to get peer review of their work. VLE’s library features can serve as a digital portfolio. Extends the school day to keep learning flowing once they get home.

Students learn to write for learning. Students learn 21 st century technology skills needed for the workplace. Students are electronically notified and reminded of upcoming due dates, test dates, school events, etc.

What types of files can be placed on the VLE? The VLE can host any type of file that you upload to it. Written files, PDF files Images Video files Audio files External links Some VLE’s do have a size limitation of the files, so it is important to check before uploading.

How does the VLE foster communication? The VLE foster’s communication because the instructor can create a calendar of upcoming due dates, test dates etc – so this serves as a type of news letter to students and parents.

There is back and forth communication between teacher and student in the form of a blog. The teacher posts a comment, and students can reply to it. The post can be made in the general forum, or assigned to a specific group. Likewise, students can reply to the teacher, or to their fellow peers. (This aspect also supports project collaboration).

How does the VLE support collaboration? The VLE supports collaboration, in the form of communication via the blogs where students and teachers are able to provide feedback. Also, collaboration is supported in the form of the library or file storage space. Here students can save documents, download them, make notations, changes, and re-upload them for peer review and collaboration.

How can you incorporate a VLE in your classroom? Comments? Questions?
