The use of ICT in everyday life has grown rapidly in the last 50 years In many workplaces, ICT is used all the time, and replaces many manual tasks which would take much longer to do ICT has changed the way we do business…

First dial up internet available 1990 First PC modem First webcam available 1995 Internet shopping launched 1996 Hotmail launched 1998 Google launched 2001 Wikipedia launched 2004 Social networking emerged 2007 Mobile internet access available 1977 PCs available in the shops invented 1971 Instead of hand writing a letter We use a word processor and send it by We don’t need to refer to an encyclopaedia to find facts Google and Wikipedia are popular places to start research Internet shopping and online business transactions take seconds We don’t need to be present in the shop to pay for goods or services Business associates don’t just keep in touch on the telephone, or when they see each other at meetings They keep in touch through social networking We don’t even need to be in the same building as our computer to check our s Laptops, smartphones and tablets make business-on-the-go a reality We don’t need to be in the same building as our colleagues to meet with them Conference calls and webcams make some travel unnecessary
