3 Version 1 | Internal Use© Ipsos MORI Methodology and Sample This report presents the findings of the second of four waves in 2014 of the IMA (Interim Management Association) Membership Audit. The study, now in its 9 th year, has been carried out from 2006 on a quarterly basis. IMA members participated in an online survey entering data for each assignment completed between 1 st April and 30 th June This report is based upon findings from the 19 participating members of the IMA. Fieldwork was carried out from July through to mid August 2014.

6 Version 1 | Internal Use© Ipsos MORI Number of completed assignments The second quarter of 2014, the 19 participating IMA members completed a total of 297 interim assignments. The average number of assignments completed per member remains stable this quarter at 16. The average number of assignments in progress per member also remains stable at 63. The overall number of new assignments started in this quarter has increased by 4% from 390 to 408 in Q The highest number of new assignments started this quarter has gone up to 100 from 80 in Q The net difference between new assignments started (408) and completed (297) is up marginally from +110 in Q to +111 in Q As of 30 th June 2014, the 19 participating IMA members had a total of 1,196 assignments in progress. The highest number of interim managers on assignment on 30 th June 2014 from one member was 200. This quarter average length of assignments has increased to 163 days in Q from 153 days in the first quarter (Q1 2014). The gender split this quarter has shown slight movement, with female executives accounting for 35% of all the assignments and male executives accounting for 65% (Q female executives accounted for 32% and male executives 68%).

16 Version 1 | Internal Use© Ipsos MORI Public sector vs. private sector  This quarter the private sector accounted for 60% of all completed assignments, up from 56% in Q The public sectors contribution to completed assignments has declined from 44% in Q to 40% in Q  The Financial Service sector continues to lead, with 38% of all private sector assignments being from this sector.  The next most prominent sectors are Transport with a 15% share and Business services, with 11% share this quarter.  This quarter Local Government remains stable and leads in the public sector with a 48% share. This is followed by the Education sector with 19% and Health sector with 15%.

20 Version 1 | Internal Use© Ipsos MORI Job function, reason for assignment  In Q2 2014, 28% of requested assignment functions were for Special projects, which is up 5 percentage points from Q (20%). This is followed by Finance with 24% this quarter.  The leading reason for an assignment remains Programme/Project Management with 66% of all interim executives hired for this purpose this quarter, which is up 17 percentage points (49% Q1 2014).  The next most common reasons for assignments remains Gap Management (13%) but this has halved from 26% in Q1 2014

25 Version 1 | Internal Use© Ipsos MORI Enquiries An ‘enquiry’ is defined as any contact for an assignment which led to a meeting with a prospective client and putting a shortlist forward.  The average number of enquiries received by each member that took part this quarter is 71. This has decreased from the previous quarter where the average number was 83.  We have seen no change in the proportion of enquiries - 70% of enquiries came from the private sector this quarter and 30% from the public sector, the split has remained relatively stable since Q2 2013
