NEWSLETTER Ms. Campbell Ms. Holt Ms. Harper Spelling / Vocabulary This week’s spelling and vocabulary words are from the Greek Root Words Workbook. Test Friday! Classic Classical Classification Classify Gratify Gratitude Gratuity Ungrateful Anchorage Public School Monday, March 11, 2013 Reading/Language/Writing Students will read a story in their National Geographic Reach for Reading series called “Dona Flor.” Key vocabulary include atmosphere, benefit, element, force, interact, landscape, material, modify, natural, and relate. Students will have centers this week. Math In math this week we will devote Monday to the comparing and ordering of decimals. Students will justify their comparisons with models and explanations. On Wednesday, students will work with a partner to complete a performance task assessment in the form of an extended response. On Thursday we will review what we have learned in this unit, and students will begin the test by completing the two short answer questions. Finally, on Friday students will have the opportunity to show their level of mastery by completing the multiple choice questions on the Decimal Unit Assessment. Good Luck Problem Solvers! Science Students will receive their graded test on “States of Matter.” We will go over it in class and then it will come home in their weekly folder. Please have students keep it in the science folder in their zipper binder. We will have a special presentation by one of our parents, Mr. Anderson, utilizing the matter and heat science standards. We will also differentiate between different types of energy. Science book pages support our studies this week. Social Studies This week in social studies we’ll be discussing the definition of a region, and what makes a region. We’ll explore landforms, climate, resources, way of life in the Southeast Region.
