Competitive Foods Foods of Minimal Nutritional Value Oregon School Nutrition Standards Wellness Policies

 Foods sold in competition with reimbursable meals  Includes a la carte sold by Food Services

 The sale of competitive foods ok if:  Income accrues to: ▪ nonprofit school food service ▪ school or student organization  Board approval/ school district policy on file

 Four classes of foods:  Soda Water/Carbonated Beverages  Water Ices  Chewing Gum  Certain Candies  USDA exemptions list

 Oregon Law limits the sale of foods and beverages sold outside of NSLP & SBP.  Limits include:  Serving size  Calories per serving  Fat, Saturated Fat, and Trans Fat  Sugar content by weight

 New requirements:  Nutrition promotion goals  Evaluation component  Inform and update the public  PE teachers & school health professionals now included on wellness committee  Person(s) to ensure compliance
