Presentation transcript:

PERSONAL HYGIENE The practice of cleanliness that promotes and maintains good health and well being

BODY ODOUR  Chemicals in sweat  Wastes excreted through the skin  The actions of bacteria that live on the skin and feed on dead skin cells and sweat  Unwashed clothes such as underwear and socks

HAND WASHING  Most infections are caught when we put unwashed hands which have germs on them into our mouth.  Hands and wrists should be thoroughly washed with clean soap and water, use a brush if your fingernails are dirty  Dry your hands either with paper towels, hand towel or hot air dryers  You should always wash you hands 

BAD BREATH  Good dental hygiene includes brushing and flossing your teeth reguarly  Bad breath can be caused by diseases of the gums and teeth  Some foods cause bad breath

SUGGESTIONS TO MANAGE ACNE

WASHING  Cleaning the skin can help but even people with very clean skin can have problems with acne  Try washing the affected area 2 – 3 times a day – don’t overdo it  Too much washing can cause other skin problems such as dryness or irritation  Try and keep hair clean and off the face and neck as oil from hair can make acne worse

DON’T SQUEEZE  Picking and squeezing pimples can get germs onto the skin around the pimple and make it worse  It can also lead to scarring

STRESS  This can trigger an outbreak of pimples as it causes the release of chemicals into the brain that can make oil glands release more oil onto the skin  This is why pimples magically seem to appear on stressful days

DIET  Many people think that lollies or chocolate cause pimples  Research has shown that there is not a strong link between diet and acne  But some people find that this works for them so if you notice a link between your diet and skin avoid eating the product that triggers pimples

ACTIVITY  In groups you are to design/invent a new wonder product – a hygiene product that does it all. You will need to include a slogan, description and come up with the most effective way to advertise your product.  Develop the advertisement  Present to the class, justifying why this product is essential to the health and wellbeing of an adolescent
