OUTLINE 2 This is a Automated pet activated by an RFID reader and Stepper Motor The programming used for this project is Arduino, which is based off of C++ programming language.

MOTIVATION Saving Parents Time Interrupted my parents over a dozen times in 2 hours Since time is important, I think any way to save some is important 3

INTRODUCTION 4 In visiting my parents I noticed they were interrupted by this many times I searched the internet for the price and availability of the components to create this project. There were two types I found: Motion Detector or RFID and I picked RFID for safety

Intro continued 5 The person building this project will need to have an in depth knowledge of electronics and Arduino Programming. If you have a background in C++ you will have a head start in programming this project.

PROBLEM STATEMENT 6 Taking the manual operation out letting pets through a child safety gate and replacing it with an automated RFID operated mechanism. You have to work around the multiple modules tied into the microcontroller.

Assumptions 7 The RFID shield and module is plugged directly into the microcontroller and when a tag is scanned then an output is sent to the motor for the door. An implicit assumption is that the person enjoys this subject and has the time and money.

PROPOSED SOLUTION 8 Here are the many steps to solve this problem:  RFID is the only method I have attempted  I picked this because this technology is good for active scanning and the tags come in numerous shapes and sizes.  Since the components plug in together it makes creating a compact device easy. The software needs to be put into declarations, so the code is less cluttered.

Solution Continued 9 Troubleshooting  The biggest problem I had was getting the two programs to work together so the door would run when a tag is scanned.  The verification I got was when I had a tag scanned an LED lit up from the output for the door, so this meant I could execute the program for the door.

RESULTS The end result I have manage to complete the programming and have evidence to show the door would function the motor hadn’t broke. Include lots of relevant images and multimedia only (maybe 1 or 2 goofy images in the presentation are OK) Show simulation plots or clip if available Show calculated results if available 10

CONCLUSIONS 11 In conclusion this project has steep learning code if you are new to programming but with the various tutorial it is doable. I personally learned an enormous amount of Arduino programming and my electronics knowledge has grown moderately.

FUTURE WORK I think this project has had a positive impact because it has improved my critical thinking, but I would never do this kind of project with a relativley short deadline. Now that I have troubleshot all the issues, when I have time and money I would like to implement this into an actual gate. 12
