Presentation transcript:

Like many of us, Linda Bailey had varying dreams of what she would be in the future. As a child, Linda already showed signs of becoming an author. When Linda was growing up in the Prairies, she would often climb a tree where no one could see her. Here she would read away from the curious eyes of others. She also spent time daydreaming, a skill that is invaluable to most authors. In fact, sometimes Linda daydreamed too much and got herself in trouble. She also dreamed of becoming a worldwide traveler. Later on, she found out she could do both.

Before she became an author, Linda Bailey attended university. While at the University of British Columbia, she received her Masters degree in Adult Education. During her time there, she met her husband, Bill Grainger. Later on, she took up teaching but soon she found she was not happy. After that, she decided to pursue her dream of becoming a writer. Soon Linda Bailey was to become a famous Canadian author.

In Linda Bailey’s career as an author, she wrote many books for children. When Linda gathered enough courage, she submitted her first manuscript to a publisher. In 1992, her first book How Come the Best Clues are Always in the Garbage? was published. After the Kids Can Press publishing company published her first book, she decided to create a series of books based on the same character, a young detective named Stevie Diamond. Linda wrote several more books in this series. However, she wanted to write other books so she came out with a short series about the adventures with historic people. She has also written single, funny children's stories. As you can see, Linda Bailey is making a wonderful career in writing.

In Linda Bailey’s career she wrote many award winning novels. Her first book is called How Come the Best Clues are Always in the Garbage?. It won the 1993 to 1994 Surrey Book of the Year award. To go along with this award winning novel, she wrote Who's Got Gertie, and How Can We Get Her Back and a few more books to end this series. Her most recent award winning book was Adventure in the Middle Ages. This book won the 2001 Silver Birch Award. As you can see, Linda Bailey is a very accomplished writer.
