PEDIATRIC MEDICATION CALCULATIONS .

. 1) A 5year old Child is having seizures Order: Dilantin 62.5 mg, PO, bid Available: Dilantin oral suspension 125mg/ml How much Dilantin suspension would you give per dose?

. 2) Child is in congestive heart failure Order: Lasix 10mg, IV x 1. Child weighs 22lbs; Safe dosing range is 1mg/kg. Is the dose ordered safe?

. 3) Child has fever of 102.6 Order: Acetaminophen 240 mg, PO x 1. Available: Acetaminophen 80mg per ½ teaspoon How much acetaminophen would you give? In ml? In teaspoons?

. 4) Child is in congestive heart failure Order: Digoxin 0.05mg, PO q12h. Available: Pediatric Digoxin elixir 50mcg/ml. How much Digoxin would you give, in ml?

. 5) Child has strep pharyngitis Order: Amoxicillin/clavunate (augmentin) 0.25g, PO, q8h Available: Augmentin 250mg/ml How much Augmentin would you give, in ml?

. 6) Child has a staph infection. Order: Clindamycin 150mg, PO, q6h Child’s weight: 40lbs Pediatric does parameter: 8-25mg/kg/d in three or four divided doses Drug available: Clindamycin 75mg/ml, oral solution How many milligrams of Clindamycin would the Child receive per day? Is the dose ordered within dosing parameters?

. 7) Child has otits media. Order: Cefaclor (Ceclor) 0.25g, PO, q8h Childs’s weight: 66lbs. Pediatric Dose Parameter: 20- 40mg/kg/d in three divided doses, maximum 1 g qd. Drug available: Ceclor 250mg/5ml How many milligrams of Ceclor would you give per dose?

How many milliliters of acetaminophen would you give per dose?
