Section 6.7 Page 261 Percents, Decimals and Fractions

You can write any ratio or fraction as a percent. Example 1. Real-world problem solving –Forty-five calories in a slice of cheese pizza are from fat. There are 160 total calories in a slice of cheese pizza. What percent of the calories are from fat? = 45 ÷ 160 (Write as a division sentence) (Divide) % Express as a percent Fat accounts for about 28% of the calories in one slice of cheese pizza.

Try it Out. Write each fraction as a percent. = ? 32% = ? 60% = ? 12% 90%

Example 2 Real-world problem solving. An elephant sleeps about 15% of a day. What fraction of a day does an elephant sleep? 15% = Now reduce!! An elephant sleeps about 3/20 of every day.

Your turn!! Express each percent as a fraction in simplest form. Step 1: Put number given over 100 Step 2: Reduce 95% Answer: 8% Answer: 79% Answer 4.5% Answer:

To write a decimal as a percent, multiply it by 100, or move the decimal point 2 places to the right. Example: 0.45 x 100 (move 2 places)= 45% Your turn: write each decimal as a percent! Answers 40% 75.9% 105%
