STOCK MARKET GAME CREATING YOUR STOCK MARKET GRAPHS

Building Your Graphs with Excel 1.Log on to the SMG using your User Name and Password

2.Click on the Investor Research link in the blue TRADING menu.

3.Type in the Ticker for the Stock you are interested in looking up and click GO

4.Double Click on the Graph to enlarge.

5.Change the Time Frame to 2 months so you can view the weeks of the SMG 10/2/06 – 12/08/06. 6.Change the Frequency to weekly.

READING THE GRAPH Looking at the first bar on the graph (Oct), move your finger up to find the X axis of the graph. Then move your finger across to the right to find the close price located on the right. (This price is the Y axis for 10/6/06.) Follow this same procedure for each bar to fill in your Excel Spreadsheet for 10/2/06 – 12/08/06.

MAKING YOUR GRAPH IN EXCEL After you fill in all of your closing prices, you will need to create your graph. Click on the first close price.Click on the first close price. While having this selected, hold down shift and click on your last close price which will highlight/select all of your closing prices.While having this selected, hold down shift and click on your last close price which will highlight/select all of your closing prices. Then click on insert chart.Then click on insert chart. Click on the Line chart type.Click on the Line chart type. Click Next.Click Next.

6.Click on the Series tab. 7.Click on the right side of the Name box. 8.Click on the cell that has the name of your stock. 9.Click on the right side of the Source Data: Name to return back to your graph.

10.Click to the right of the Category (X) axis labels. 11.Click on week 1, hold down the Shift key, and then select week 9 to select weeks 1-9.

12.Click on the right of the Chart Wizard – Step 2 of 4 – Chart Source Data – Category (X) to return back to your graph.

13.Click Next 14.Type in the Chart Title Johnson & Johnson (JNJ) 10/02/06 – 12/08/06 Johnson & Johnson (JNJ) 10/02/06 – 12/08/06 15.Type in the Category (X) axis: Week # Week # 16.Type in the Value (Y) axis: Closing Prices Closing Prices

17.Click Next. 18.Click Finish.

19.Click File and Click Save As Click on your H drive Click on your H drive Change the File Name to: SMG Graphs Change the File Name to: SMG Graphs Save Save 20.Click on your graph to select. 21.Click File and Click Print 22.Create a cover sheet in Word with the name of your group members. 23.Staple your Cover Sheet and all of your graphs together and turn in!
