God’s Forgiveness is Based on His Mercy Unconfessed sin is a heavy weight mentally, emotionally, physically, and spiritually. –You see all of this in David’s own words. “My sin is ever before me.” (51:3) “The bones you have broken may rejoice.” (51:8) “Renew a steadfast spirit within me.” (51:10) “Restore to me the joy of Your salvation.” (51:12) “Deliver me from the guilt of bloodshed.” (51:14) How does a person get in such a mess?

Things to Understand about God’s Forgiveness: 2.You sin because you are a ______. (51:5) sinner You are a sinner first by nature. (Psalm 51:5; Romans 5:12) A sinner by nature and then a sinner by choice.

Things to do to be forgiven: 1.______ your sins (51:3)Admit This is the hard part. But you cannot be forgiven until you admit your sins. David said, “I acknowledge my transgressions…” David did not call what he had done a weakness. He did not say it was an accident. He made no alibis. He did not blame Bathsheba. David just admitted that he had messed up.

Things to do to be forgiven: 2.______ God’s complete forgiveness. (51:1- 2) David had a desire to be forgiven. You see it in three words. 1.“____” (51:1) is the idea of being removed from the record. 2.“_____” (51:2) is the idea of removing the stain from a dirty garment. 3.“_______” (51:2) pictures the purification necessary for temple worship. Things to do to be forgiven: 3.____ God to keep your heart clean. (51:10) Once you have admitted your sin, you must ask God to keep your heart clean so you will not fall back into the sin again. Ask immune In this life, you will never be _______ from sin, because you are by nature a sinner.

Things to do to be forgiven: But if you have truly repented of a specific sin there will be two results: 1.You will not desire to commit that sin again. 2.You will have a new power that will help you not commit that sin again. You may commit that sin again, but you do not have to. (I John 3:9). God not only frees us from the penalty of sin, but God frees us from the power of sin.
