Nexis UK: Simple Subject Search Looking for articles from the Broadsheets published over the last two years concerning the application of information technology in secondary education.
Nexis UK contd. Unless searching for a particularly esoteric topic which is unlikely to be widely covered in the Press, in middle box drop-down menu to highlight Major Mentions
Nexis UK Search contd. Put terms in Search box(es) Select Major Mentions Choose type of Publication to be searched from Sources box. Choose date range with care Click Search
Nexis UK Search contd. Articles will be listed chronologically in centre of results page with each title linking to the full text. On left of page will be information concerning the number of articles found in each of the newspapers searched.
Nexis UK Search contd. Simple search found 48 items from the broadsheets [9 from the Guardian, 11 from the Telegraph etc] Now search will be expanded by adding New Technology to search terms and using Boolean OR option.
Nexis UK Search contd. To select articles from a particular newspaper simply click on title of publication from list on left and all articles from that source will be displayed. E.g. looking at the 12 articles which appeared in the Daily Telegraph
Searching for articles with known author Place author’s name in natural language in Search Box. Allow adjacent box to remain on the default Anywhere. Put subject matter [if any] in second Search Box and qualify by selecting Major Mentions.
Known author’s total output Simply put author’s name in Search box and allow locations box to default to Anywhere [with many newspaper articles the journalist’s name may appear at the beginning of, at the end of, or somewhere within, the body of the article
