WELCOME BACK! Mr. Salinas 7 th Grade English Language Arts

ELECTIVES  Study of Pop Culture

ABOUT ME  About Mr. Salinas :  I’ve been a teacher for 8 years, and this is my second year at Somerset Academy.  I graduated from UNLV. Go Rebels!  I serve the country as part of the United States Air Force and the Nevada Air National Guard.  I am a HUGE fan of the San Diego Chargers.

SAFETY  Keep hands and feet to self/no fighting, no bullying will be tolerated.  Walk in the building.

WHAT DO I BRING TO ENGLISH CLASS EACH DAY? -You and your brain - -Pen/pencil/paper/folder/device - -Materials you have been working on- -A positive attitude-

CHAMPS Conversation- Can we talk at this time, and if so, on what voice level? Help- How do we get help during this activity? Activity- What are we doing? Movement- Can we move around during this activity, and if so, how much? Participation- How can we know we are participating the way that we should be? SUCCESS!

TWO RULES

RESPONSIBILITY  Try your best at all times.  Follow directions.  Complete your school work.  If you make a mess, help clean it up.  If you make a mistake, be honest.  Take care of your equipment/school property.  Be on time.

RESPECT  RESPECT  Each Other  Treat others as you wish to be treated.  Be prepared.  Be courteous.  Use appropriate language.  Listen to each other.  Remember that you represent yourself, this class, your family and community.  The Classroom  Do not destroy property and clean up your mess if you make one.  The Teacher  Do not ANNOY Mr. Salinas.

CLASSROOM POLICIES HOMEWORK -Homework is due on the date the teacher specifies unless otherwise noted. -If homework is not submitted on time, the student has until the next day to submit it or they will be required to come in before school, at lunch (per teacher), or stay after school in order to complete the assignment. -Not completing the assignment is not an option! PROJECTS/CLASS WORK/QUIZZES/TESTS -If a students receives a grade they are not happy with on any project, class work, quiz, or test, they have a period of 2 weeks to correct their work.

BOOKS  Books will only be used in classroom and will not be taken home.  Only take YOUR book.  Spines out at all times.

DEVICES  Having a device will be VERY helpful for this class.  Iphone/Ipod/Ipad/Galaxy  Download these apps:  Seesaw  Nearpod  QR Reader

READING AND WRITING FOLDERS  WE WILL BE MAINTAINING A READING AND WRITING (RAW) FOLDER THROUGHOUT THE YEAR.

BATHROOM PASS  ONLY FOR EMERGENCY  SIGN-IN/SIGN-OUT SHEET

SCHEDULE  STEPHANIE MIDDLE SCHOOL  7:40am Campus open to students  7:50am-8:00am Morning Ceremony  8:00 Class begins  Students are tardy at 8:01am  3:24 Middle School Day Complete  3:30pm Dismissal

 The bell does not dismiss you, Mr. Salinas dismisses you.  You will not be dismissed until the whole class is at Level 0.  Leave the classroom silently, and do not run in the hallway.

IN CASE OF FIRE DRILL: 1.Turn your voices to Level 0 2.Exit the classroom door to the right 3.Proceed down the stairs in a single file line 4.Line up by class in a straight line 5.Stand at voice level 0 until further instructions are given

 Teacher will lock the door.  That’s it. Class as usual.
