OVERHEARD AT THE REGIONAL P/C MEETINGS If you're tired at the end of a day of teaching, chances are you weren't engaging students with the arts. Stop and look at the children's faces and remember why we are teachers. Trust the children's intelligence...Children learn best through movement and relationships. I RECONNECTED WITH MY INNER ARTIST TODAY. It’s really all about our children, isn’t it?

Art Works grants support the creation of art that meets the highest standards of excellence public engagement with diverse and excellent art, lifelong learning in the arts enhancing the livability of communities through the arts. The NEA received 1,547 eligible applications under the Art Works category, requesting more than $80 million in funding. ARTS EDUCATION: This round of grants supports school-based projects that are aligned to and enhance the school curriculum, as well as professional development projects to equip principals, teachers, and teaching artists with the knowledge, skills, and confidence to effectively engage students in curriculum-based arts learning. A grant to the Gates County Board of Education in Gatesville, North Carolina, of $36,000 will support Gates County A+, a professional development program in arts integration for teachers and administrators from three North Carolina schools, qualifying them to become part of the North Carolina A+ Schools Program. Through this project, Gates County will be the first district in North Carolina to include all of its schools in the A+ network.

“Our style of teaching has to be based on how the children learn best rather than how we want them to learn”. “Teaching through the multiple intelligences and the arts requires letting go. I have to give up a large part of my control as a teacher to let students make connections and discover who they are as individuals”. “An A+ teacher advocates for the multiple intelligences and arts because it is vital to student engagement, critical thinking skills, problem solving, making connections between subject areas and self-perception”.
