Bhagavad-Gita As It Is Text Yoga – Detachment / Attachment. Place of Liberated beings. Indifference to rituals.

Text 47 karmaëy evädhikäras te mä phaleñu kadäcana mä karma-phala-hetur bhür mä te saìgo ’stv akarmaëi “You have a right to perform your prescribed duty, but you are not entitled to the fruits of action. Never consider yourself the cause of the results of your activities, and never be attached to not doing your duty.” Perfrom duty Don’t be attached to results. Don’t consider your self the cause of results of your activities. Never be attached to not doing your duty.

Text 48 yoga-sthaù kuru karmäëi saìgaà tyaktvä dhanaïjaya siddhy-asiddhyoù samo bhütvä samatvaà yoga ucyate “Perform your duty equipoised, O Arjuna, abandoning all attachment to success or failure. Such equanimity is called yoga.”

Text 49 düreëa hy avaraà karma buddhi-yogäd dhanaïjaya buddhau çaraëam anviccha kåpaëäù phala-hetavaù “O Dhanaïjaya, keep all abominable activities far distant by devotional service, and in that consciousness surrender unto the Lord. Those who want to enjoy the fruits of their work are misers.” By Buddhi-Yoga keep abominable actions away. Surrender unto Lord in that consciousness. Misers want to enjoy the fruit of their labor. This verse is a advice to keep all abominable activities away simply by using intelligence to perform work which shall not bind a person – AKARMA or YOGA. Krsna will be gradually clear.

Text Art of work – working but still no entanglement. Great sages follow this “Art of working”. Viakuntha – the goal of such great sages and not this material world, where there is danger at every step. samäñritä ye pada-pallava-plavaà mahat-padaà puëya-yaço muräreù bhavämbudhir vatsa-padaà paraà padaà padaà padaà yad vipadäà na teñäm “ For one who has accepted the boat of the lotus feet of the Lord, who is the shelter of the cosmic manifestation and is famous as Mukunda, or the giver of mukti, the ocean of the material world is like the water contained in a calf’s footprint. paraà padam, or the place where there are no material miseries, or Vaikuëöha, is his goal, not the place where there is danger in every step of life.”

Text yadä te moha-kalilaà buddhir vyatitariñyati tadä gantäsi nirvedaà çrotavyasya çrutasya ca “When your intelligence has passed out of the dense forest of delusion, you shall become indifferent to all that has been heard and all that is to be heard.” Becoming indifferent to Vedic rituals and the gains/fears mentioned in scriptures. They are for neophytes and purpose is to raise one to Krsna Consciousness. King Kulashekhar’s prayer. When one is no more diverted by the promises and punishments mentioned in Vedic scriptures and just fixed in Krsna Consciousness is a man in divine intelligence.
