Proposal Guidelines for CBI Markus Nordberg

MoU Agreement Two parts; a)Minimal legal part (as shown yesterday; including student permission to publish) – Data/input as public domain (ie no NDAs) – Including: teaching material, student presentations (milestones) – Excluding: student exercises, material involving third party property (and video footage of public) b)Annex for the CBI Guidelines – Publication policy – Involvement of external parties (eg industrial sponsors) – Use of social media – Use of EU funding – Post-CBI action – Media

MoU Annex 1.Publication policy for CBI university partners Proposal: Partners can freely use the produced data/input and process it for research purposes. CBI partners will be duly informed with an abstract of the research plan or paper, with the proposed list of authors. In case of disagreement, CBI coordinator will arbitrate. A public record will be kept of the planned or published material.

MoU Annex 2. Involvement of external parties (eg industrial sponsors, research institutes) Proposal: CBI Partner Universities can involve external parties, such as eg industrial sponsors or research institutes, provided that these arrangements are in line with those of CERN. Their possible participation in publications shall be discussed and agreed with the other CBI partners on a case-by-case basis.

MoU Annex 3. Use of social media Proposal: CBI students are permitted to create on their private initiative dedicated social media channels to support them in their group assignments. The postings shall never include uncompromising material of fellow students or teaching staff, such as inappropriate or humiliating photos or comments.

MoU Annex 4. Use of EU funding Proposal: CBI partner universities are encouraged to seek EU funding for CBI, including the other partners (and CERN). In case CERN involvement is sought, CERN needs to be informed at least one month before submitting a proposal. CERN can also coordinate a submission, if deemed necessary.

MoU Annex 5. Post-CBI action Proposal: CBI students are encouraged to develop their ideas and prototypes further after the CBI. This includes continuing their studies, collaborating with potential industrial partners or establishing their own companies. In all such cases, which are based on the final prototypes presented by the students teams, the students shall inform their co-developers in a timely manner and consult the CBI coordinator.

MoU Annex 5. Media Proposal: CBI Partner Universities are encouraged to communicate their participation and role in CBI in their national media. While doing so, they will refer to CBI and the other CBI partners by name. Audio-visual material produced and shared as part of the CBI courses can be freely used by CBI partners for publicity purposes, making reference to CBI.
