Presentation transcript:

With the number of people in the United States waiting for a life saving organ transplant growing greater than 100,000 people, the need for organ donors is higher than ever. Whether you wish to donate while living and healthy or you wish to make a decision for the end of your life, giving the "Gift of Life" can help give another person a chance for a full life. Overview

* The number of people who need transplants is continuing to rise faster than the number of available donors. According to Donate Life America, there are more than 86 million registered tissue, organ and eye donors in America. However, more than 106,000 women, men and children are still in need of donated organ, tissue and corneal transplants. About 96% of people say that they would accept organs from a donation, but less than 26% are registered as organ donors…

* What would be the benefits to you, society, and to your family. * Consider that as a living donor you are undergoing major surgery, which includes hospitalization, time away from work, pain during recovery, and follow up with medications to prevent infections. * There is an increased risk to yourself as a living donor with the complication of living with only one kidney or lung. * Even though transplants have a highly successful rate, there is a chance that it will not work for the recipient.
