Review of the Run Cycle
The Run Cycles
Anticipation
Anticipation - Almost all actions are preceded by an anticipation of that action. - Anticipation helps the animator to communicate clearly to the audience what is going to happen next. - Adding anticipation to an action strengthens the action and adds clarity to the movement.

WEIGHT & BALANCE
Weight & Balance -Two key factors in making believable animation - Weight: - All figures should possess weight in their actions; dependable on age / mood / external forces, etc. - Balance: - Linked to weight of the figure
Weight & Balance
Lifting
Throwing
Pushing
Pulling
Overlapping Action The movement of the different parts of a living creature do not occur at the same time; things start, move and stop at different points and move at different rates. - To create this lifelike action, it is necessary to create time lags between these separate actions making the movement of the individual elements overlap. This is what we call overlapping action.
EXERCISE – Anticipation, Weight & Balance Have a figure execute a simple action (push / pull / throw / lift), taking into consideration anticipation, weight & overlapping action (approx 20 drawings)
