10/19/2015 Presentation Title | SubsectionOwens-Illinois, Inc. 3 Recycling Means U.S. and Oklahoma Jobs  Robust market for post-consumer glass in the U.S. and Oklahoma.  Glass, aluminum, and plastic companies ALL rely on recycled beverage containers as ingredients in new products.  All industries are energy intensive and compete against foreign produced containers who face fewer regulatory pressures and costs.  U.S. glass manufacturing faces direct competition from Mexican glass companies right on the border, producing cheaper products in a less regulated environment. U.S. workers are losing to foreign competition.

Solving Oklahoma’s Challenge  Consider classifying beverage containers as beneficial for manufacturing and not as solid waste.  Keeping beverage containers out of landfills or roadbed.  Set goals on recycling rates agreed upon by the administration, legislature and industry.  Bar and Restaurant beverage container recycling.  Public venue recycling (hotels, sport stadiums, schools, casinos etc.)  Rural collection site partnerships.  Multi-family dwelling units / apartment buildings.  Partnerships throughout the recycling supply chain which are economically viable and beneficial to Oklahoma manufacturing. 10/19/2015 Presentation Title | SubsectionOwens-Illinois, Inc. 4
