Geometry: Study of shapes Logic Measurements

Course Descriptions: A basic goal of Geometry is to expand the understanding of mathematical concepts and to improve logical thinking skills. Students will be presented with concepts, strategies and guidance in order to improve on their own decision making ability. These concepts will be reinforced through exercises in order to gain mastery and provoke critical thinking.

This is not your typical math course! It is probably going to be the first time you study for math. There is a ton of vocabulary to learn as well!

Prerequisites: A passing grade in Algebra I

Text(s): Geometry: McDougal Littell

Supplementary Materials: Scientific calculator TI-30X IIS (Texas Instruments)

Supplementary Materials: Geometry tool kit – protractor, compass, ruler (available at any office supply store or Target) (Required by Monday, January 12 th )

Classroom Rules/Behavioral Expectations: Respect yourself, others and the teacher Do not disrupt the learning process of others

Be prepared for each class (BRING necessary materials)  Textbook  Pencil and paper  Calculator, protractor, compass, and straightedge Classroom Rules/Behavioral Expectations:

Be on time. No eating or drinking in the classroom, except water Assignments will be collected daily Late assignments will not be accepted

IF YOU ARE ABSENT  You may not make up the daily quiz  It is your responsibility to get the notes and make-up work complete before test day  If you are absent on test day, you must take the test BEFORE the day of the next chapter test.  Homework and Tests will receive no credit if the absence is unexcused (not cleared with the office) Classroom Rules/Behavioral Expectations:

Course Outline/Topics Covered: Course objectives encompass GUHSD mathematics standards An overview of Geometry Reasoning Lines in a plane Congruent triangles and properties of triangles Polygons Transformations Similarity Right triangles Circles Planar measurements Space measurements

Grading and Assessment Policy: 100% - 90%=A 89% - 80%=B 79% - 73%=C 72% - 68%=C- 67%= D Less than 67%=F

Breakdown of Grading Categories 45% =Test 5%=Daily Quizzes 30%= Assignments/Projects 20%=Final Exam

Classroom Rules/Behavioral Expectations: The math department holds tutorials Monday, Wednesdsy, and Thursday from 2:45 – 4:45 pm. See poster in room for locations. DayTeacherRoom # MondayMr. HaltermannF207 WednesdayMr. Stephens or Mr. GoodhueF101 ThursdayMrs. BullockF205

Resources:

Things about me: I love music I work a lot! I am working on my Masters I teach AP Statistics, Geometry Support, Geometry.

Things about the Classroom: I will be using PowerPoints almost daily You will be working in groups Calendar and agenda are in the back Grade sheets will be sent home after each test If you get an ‘A’ on a test, your name goes up on the superstars board!

Things about the Classroom: I will only answer 2 HW questions the next day There will be notes and HW daily There will be daily quizzes There will be extra credit

Bathroom Rules: You cannot go for the first 15 minutes of class or during notes If someone is gone you cannot go When you come back return the pass to me

Things NOT to do: Your phone is not a calculator Ipods should not be used! Cheat Say “I will do this homework later” Go through my things without permission Say “I don’t want to sit here” Put your head down on your desk Not come prepared to class

TermDefinitionPictureNotation Point A finite space represented by a dot. 0 dimensions A A Point A pt. A One capital letter

TermDefinitionPictureNotation Line Through any two points, there is one line. Extends without end. 1 dimension A B C m line m Two capital letters

TermDefinitionPictureNotation Line Segment Has two endpoints. Doesn’t go on forever. A B C

TermDefinitionPictureNotation Ray S C A B Initial point, then continues in one direction First letter is initial point
