Teacher’s Views on Creating Their Own Materials

Why teacher create their own materials? …text books are designed for a general audience, and it does not fully meet pupils’ specific needs… Textbooks, supplementary materials,

Problems Teachers Meet on Creating Materials  Lack of time to design materials and activity  Cost involved in making/ photocopying  Lack of handbooks or reference books to get idea  Lack of skill/ expertise to design own materials

How to Analyze and Evaluate Activities

To Analyze and To Evaluate Individual learning activities for adapting and designing materials→build confidence ACTIVITY GOAL INPUT PROCEDURE OUTCOME TEACHER’S ROLE LEADER’S ROLE ORGANIZATION

How to Select Activities for Language Learning?

Identifying criteria for selecting activities When you want to select or design an activity to use with your pupils, what are the questions you ask yourself? (P.91)

(1) Purpose (reminding, language skill) (2) Suitability (difficulty, enjoyment) (3) Management (space, length, procedure, material…) (4) Language-learning principles (does it develop…) → Checklist (P92~3)

No activity can fulfill all the criteria simultaneously : Priorities

The value of adapting activities and of creating your own It enables us to (1) stand back from the routine of your daily teaching (2) consider it from a different perspective, which may give you insights into your teaching

Have no experience of creating your materials  Adapt those you find in textbooks or in magazines for teachers (give us confidence to get started)

Thanks for listening!
