Miscellaneous Organization is a key to success. Every student has a portfolio to help with organization. We are asking for a $3.00 donation to off-set the cost of the portfolios. Every student will also have a planner to keep track of assignments.

Daily Schedule 8:55 - School Begins 9:00-10:40 - Reading 10:45-11:30 - Specials 11:30-12:15 - Writing 12:15-1:00 - Lunch and Recess 1:10-2:15 - Math 2:15-3:15 - Science/Social Studies 3:15-3:20 - Clean Up and Assignment Notebooks 3:25-3:45 - Prepare for Dismissal and Silent Reading 3:45 - Dismissal

Reading Standards Fluency –118 words per minute at 95% accuracy Comprehension Step Reading Program Reading starts promptly at 9:00 a.m. –Thanks for having your child at school on time.

Writing Nebraska State Writing Assessment Must be a personal narrative Must be true Please begin telling family stories to your child. For the month of January, we will have writing twice a day!

Math Standards Timed Tests –Addition and Subtraction (200 problems), five minutes each –Multiplication and Division (190 problems), five minutes each Problem Solving Hands-On Algebra

Performance-Based Groups Math and Reading Classes are accountable for same set of 4th Grade standards Based on 3rd grade test scores, teacher recommendation, and 4th grade test scores Flexible Provide students with the most effective instruction

Assessment Changes a few years ago –Achievement Grades ( 1, 2, 3, 4, 5) –Performance Indicators (Advanced, Proficient, Progressing, Beginning) Midterms –More descriptive –Clear goals and ways to reach them Report Cards –Performance indicators, no number grades –Objective, not subjective

Homework Policy Blue Hand-out has the details Homework slips are a way to communicate with you. Students may record slips in planner as well.
