WHAT DO I NEED TO DO TO GRADUATE? FRESHMEN ADVISORY AUGUST 25, 2015

WHAT ARE CREDITS ANYWAY?  You need 220 credits to graduate from Fort Bragg High School  Every class you pass each semester will earn you 5 credits towards graduation  You earn only one credit for advisory

CAN I TAKE ANY CLASS I WANT TO GET MY 220 CREDITS?  Yes and no. Every credit you earn from FBHS will count towards graduation but you must earn credits in certain categories or you won’t earn your diploma:  English: 40 credits  Math: 30 credits  Science: 20 credits  Social Studies: 30 credits  PE: 20 credits  Foreign Language or Visual Performing Arts: 10 credits  Freshmen Seminar Class: 10 credits  Electives: 60

WHAT HAPPENS IF I GET AN “F” FOR A GRADE?  Welcome to high school!! If you fail a class, you get to take it AGAIN. In fact, in most cases you’ll keep taking the class until you DO pass it.  We have several FBHS students who are enrolled in two English classes or two social studies classes because they failed a semester and need to retake the class. Core classes take priority over electives.  Do your work and ask questions. It’s pretty easy to pass if you do your work. We have many resources to help students.  By the way, if you think you’re going to get through FBHS without doing any homework, you’re CRAZY!!! (Seriously…wake up….do your work)

ARE GRADUATION REQUIREMENTS THE SAME FOR COLLEGE ENTRANCE REQUIREMENTS?  Nope. If you hope to APPLY to a four-year university or college, you’ll need to do a few extra classes in addition to our graduation requirements.  Foreign Language: 20 credits (30 credits recommended)  Math: 30 credits (40 recommended)  Science (lab): 20 credits (30 credits recommended)  Visual Performing Arts: 10 credits  See page 15 in the Student Handbook for a complete list of classes.

WHAT DO I DO IF I NEED HELP?  All FBHS students may attend ASSETs after school.  ASSETs is NOT like the Kudos program at middle school.  You can drop into any ASSETs classroom and stay as long as you like. When you are done with your work, you can leave.  Your teachers are here to help you. If you need help, ask your teacher for help, or attend ASSETs and you can ask a different teacher for help.

MAKE THE MOST OUT OF HIGH SCHOOL  Your time at FBHS has already begun.  Make good choices and take advantage of your education.  Believe it or not, no one can take away the education you EARN.  Ask for help and do your best. June of 2019 will be here before you know it. STAY FOCUSED CLASS OF 2019!!
