(note: there are many varieties of Orthodoxy)

Conservative referred to as the ‘middle ground’ between Orthodox and Reform. worship is conducted in Hebrew and English. men and women sit together during worship mixture of Orthodox and reform beliefs and practices. accepts the Rabbinical belief framework. women are allowed to read from the Torah. look upon God as a cosmic process rather than as a transcendent individual.

Reform/Progressive has sought to modify some traditional orthodox religious practice and adapt it to contemporary life and thought. concentrate on the ethical teachings of the biblical prophets rather than the teachings handed down by Moses. humans are seen as God’s partners. challenges Rabbinical Judaism in every way. synagogues are called ‘temples’. women can be ordained as rabbis or cantors. retain the spiritual and idealistic core of traditional Jewish teaching but dispense with many Jewish rituals.
