About me 0 I graduated from Columbus State University in This summer, I also graduted from Walden University with my Masters Degree in Elementary Education. My Husband, Travis and I love to spend our summers at the beach! This is our dog Max! He loves being out on the water with us. My favorite subject to teach is science!

Goals 0 Get to know each of my students and begin creating a classroom community. 0 Build confidence and recognize students for success, no matter how great or small! 0 Lastly, I want every parent to feel involved in their child’s learning.

What will your child learn this year? In Language Arts/Reading: 0 Reading Wonders is our new textbook. It includes both language arts and reading. 0 In this new series, there is an online component that can be used as a home resource. The website below is the reading wonders student login page In this site they can view weekly stories and other educational materials. 0 Login information is located in the “links” section on the class web page. Students will learn: 0 To summarize, compare and contrast reading material 0 To recognize and distinguish between fiction and nonfiction reading material 0 To identify main ideas and supporting details in written material

What will your child learn this year? In Mathematics: 0 Envision is our new common core math book series The series is more interactive and the kids have the opportunity to practice with online manipulatives in the classroom. 0 There is also an online component that can be found on my website. Students will learn: 0 Place value of larger numbers 0 Addition and subtraction of larger numbers 0 Elapsed time 0 Multiplication and division 0 Fractions 0 Problem solving strategies for word problems 0 Geometry – area and perimeter

Grading Scale 0 Grades will be as follows: 0 A = 100 to 90 0 B = 89 to 80 0 C = 79 to 70 0 F = 69 and below 0 Students will receive numerical grades in science, social studies, math, language arts, and reading. They will receive a letter grade for conduct(S,N,U). 0 Assessments count 60% and Classwork counts 40%

Testing 0 We will give SLO testing two times. 0 Benchmark testing 0 Georgia Milestones is the new CRCT 0 Students will take the GA Milestones in Math and Reading/ Language Arts. 0 CRCT will still be given for Science and Social Studies. 0 Mobymax.com is a wonderful website to use in preparation for testing. Class Dojo 0 Reinforces positive behavior in the classroom and helps to engage students in the learning process. 0 Dojo Messenger and the comment section allow me to communicate with parents when needed on a class basis or private message. 0 You may also contact me through this program, and it sends in the form of a text message directly to me. 0 Specific positive reinforcement helps students develop a sense of purpose in the classroom, enhancing motivation over time. 0 Class Dojo makes it easy to communicate behavior instantly and creates a channel of communication on a daily basis. 0 If you have not signed up yet, activation codes are in your parent packet.

How will the school communicate your student’s progress and activities with you? 0 Daily Agenda 0 Infinite Campus Parent Portal (More information about obtaining your activation key will follow) 0 Progress reports are sent home with students at the midterm of every nine weeks. 0 Report cards are sent home with students every nine weeks. 0 The teacher will send notes, s, and make phone calls as needed to communicate with parents. 0 The classroom website will provide important information and classroom announcements. What does the school expect from your child? 0 Behave appropriately- Follow classroom, school, and cafeteria rules and procedures. 0 Complete all assignments neatly and completely. 0 Complete and return homework and materials sent home. Sign Reading log daily (located in daily agenda). 0 Come to school equipped to learn and have fun.

How can parents help students to succeed in third grade? 0 Monitor student’s Accelerated Reading progress toward nine weeks goal. 0 Review homework and blue take home folder. 0 Help your child keep his/her binder organized. 0 Encourage your student to read minutes every night. Students will need to record their reading time and get it signed starting next week. 0 Practice addition, subtraction, and multiplication facts at home with flash cards. 0 Below is a link you can use to print multiplication fact cards: 0 cards0-12.pdf cards0-12.pdf

Homework 0 Homework packets will be sent home in Spelling, Language Arts, and Math. 0 The work will need to be completed throughout the week and is due back each day for review. 0 Spelling test will take place on Friday of each week 0 Please contact me if there is a question about the homework. I will meet with you or your child to answer any questions.

How can parents help their child with homework? 0 Monitor and sign your child’s nightly reading log. Students should read each night for minutes. 0 Please check both your child’s agenda book and red folder daily for any important papers, notes, or comments. 0 Provide your student with a quiet study time and area. 0 Encourage independent work but also review the homework with your child when finished.

Room Parents 0 Room parents help with coordinating parties and special events. 0 PTO also asks room parents to further communicate information with classroom parents throughout the year. 0 See me if you are interested!
