Historical overview November 1997: establishing the John von Neumann Digital Library since Autumn 1999: the WebKat.hu - online internet catalogue June 2000: the Digital Literary Academy on the Internet 2002 National Audiovisual Archive project; March 1998 – May 2003: 6 million users via Internet

Activity Scope of activity:  digitisation of the Hungarian cultural heritage;  creating, storing and supplying long- lasting digital documents;  development of methodical and content-related issues connected to digital library duties;  construction and maintenance of a meta-database;  professional education and postgraduate studies.

Services Main services 1:  WebKat.hu – the online catalogue of Hungarian Internet sources;  Digital Literary Academy – online database of Hungarian contemporary literature;  digitisation and publication of texts on the Internet;  meta-database of Hungarian libraries, museums and archives;

Services Main services 2:  discography of CD-ROMs published in Hungary and list of CD-ROM publishers/developers;  publication of CD-ROMs;  organisation of professional postgraduate studies;  participation in the development of the library standards and methods related to electronic documents;
