LA1- Lesson 45 Poetry

Now it is time for our poetry lessons! I am so excited! Poetry is such a fun part of life!

We talked about rhyming before poetry because a lot of poetry uses rhyming words. Poetry does not have to rhyme, however, and is really about the writer expressing his emotions with the reader. It is usually written in short sentences (or verse) with rhymes, rhythms, or both.

There is poetry everywhere! It is in our reading, our writing, and songs we sing. Actually, our class song is a poem I wrote for you!

Let’s read a few poems by one of my favorite authors, Shel Silverstein. I grew up reading his poems and still love them today! His book is called Where the Sidewalk Ends.

This is a poem called Sick. Let’s read it together!

I think this poem is so creative and funny! What did you think? Take a minute and talk to the person next to you about what you thought of the poem.

Let’s read another one! This one is called Invisible Boy. Let’s talk about it. What did you think?

Homework No homework tonight! Just pay attention to how our class song is poetry!

Our Class Song Thanks for learning little stars Do you know how smart you are? So many things to see and do, Learning is fun for me and you. Up in that big brain of yours, Is the key to unlock all doors. Do your best and concentrate, I’m so proud, you’re doing great. Thanks for learning little stars Do you know how smart you are?
