These last 12 months have brought misery, disease and death to the city. We hoped that the worse was behind us and we could look forward to happier times. We were wrong … another disaster was just around the corner! Click here 1.What was the mood of the city during this period? 2.Why were the King and religious leaders worried? What warnings did they give?

Our maid, Jane, woke me at 3.00 this morning. The weather was very hot and dry and a strong wind was blowing from the west. I looked out of the widow and could see the glow of a fire in the distance. The people of the city panicked! They fled leaving everything they owned behind. On Tuesday the fire was still raging out of control. There was nothing we could do but watch and wait. The King ordered guards to patrol the streets because looters were rummaging through the smoking houses looking for treasure left behind or hidden.
