One day a mama duck and her 4 ducklings (Lucy, Harry, Chloe, and Grace) were going for a quiet swim when they noticed a hawk flying above them.

Lucy had gotten a receipt smacked in her face. She was hoping that it didn’t happen again. Suddenly a hawk swooped down, but luckily it didn’t catch any ducklings.

One duckling named Grace, noticed that mama duck was missing!!! She told Lucy, Harry, and Chloe about mama. They looked underwater, in the tree, and around the pond….but no mama duck!

Finally, they got tired and suddenly they gave up. Then the ducklings went to the mouse named, Miss Mouse. She asked them, “Why are you here?” They answered, “We’re looking for Mama duck!” “I can’t help you, but I think I saw her going to the bird bath.” So the ducklings checked the bird bath. No Mama duck!

They tried to listen carefully for Mama duck’s quack. They didn’t hear a sound. Then one of them said, “Maybe the hawk took her to his nest.” “That could be possible,” said Harry sadly. “Maybe it could,” said Chloe nervously. The group tried to fly up to the hawk’s nest, but that didn’t work – they were just too small.

Suddenly the hawk swooped down, but was distracted by a really shiny penny. He flew in the wrong direction. Mama duck was on his back, but he didn’t know it. Mama duck jumped off and landed next to her ducklings.

They all ran off toward the pond. Then Mama duck promised she would never swim on the hawk’s side of the pond again! They all lived happily ever after.
