Belgian educational publishers present Knooppunt.net / Digiportail.be yesterday – today - tomorrow Meeting DG EAC 6/11/2012

Agenda 1.Knooppunt: the concept 2.Knooppunt today 3.Knooppunt Knooppunt 2014 and so on 5.Principles of evolution 6.Innovation by Belgian educational publishers

1. Knooppunt: the concept The most innovative aspect of knooppunt: It is simple and easy to use! One login & One platform give access to all digital material from all educational publishers One reference for all students and teachers Flanders: Wallonia: No visible complexity for students en teachers First view is general Publishers differentiate on the level of their material, their content One helpdesk The use of the platform is for free The activation codes are distributed by the publishers

1. Knooppunt: the concept

Digital content work book

1. Knooppunt: the concept Link to website

1. Knooppunt: the concept Digital excercises

1. Knooppunt: the concept Extra learning material

2. Knooppunt today The products: Different material for teachers and students Manuals Online magazines Interactive exercises Films / audio / games Digital whiteboard products The numbers 30/10/2012: users: Content licenses: Different products: Mainly secondary school, but expanding to primary school and higher education

3. Knooppunt 2013 Separate solution for tablets and digital whiteboards What it will be Linked to / More library view Simple to use With additional features, like write, share, highlight, save, … A first step towards more interactive material Live in September 2013 What it won’t be A shop A catalogue Too revolutionary Expensive Collaboration / interaction between Knooppunt & Electronic Learning Environments Already present, but will be rebuild and possibilities extended

3. Knooppunt 2013 Solution for tablets and digital whiteboards

4.Knooppunt 2014 and so on Concept Rethinking the concept of distributing and using (digital) school material Life-long-learning: one site for digital school material from primary school through secondary and High school up to evening classes for adults Still easy to use (different visual presentation for kids than for adults) Integration with external tools to make the life of teachers and pupils as organized and simple as possible Set up an infrastructure that makes it easy to serve the users through new (not yet invented) distribution canals without too much additional work …

5. Principles behind future projects Knooppunt evolves with a speed workable for its users Not too innovative from the beginning in order not to lose users in the process but not too conservative to be left behind in the digital revolution No products for which there is no infrastructure in schools or no training available for teachers Accessible and understandable for all users Not just for the computer savvy / not for the buyers of specific software or learning environments / not only for schools with money / not exclusive for mac or windows… Quality of content / material Educational publishers do not compete on the level of infrastructure or technology but on the quality of their content! Quality from page 1 on: Avoid that users have to stroll through hundreds and hundreds of pages and sites to find what they need

6. Innovation by Belgian Educational Publishers Educational publishers are in general very sensible to the demands of the teachers and students They have direct contact with their customers and engage teachers to write the material They know their business and their customers They are the most innovative of all types of publishers They create, test, rethink, innovate without assurance of sells in order to come up with the best product
