Scientific Revolution Aim/Goal: Why did the Renaissance society fear scientific advancement? Do Now: Which inventions of the last 25 years have had a great impact On our lives? Explain in a few sentences. Homework: Galileo would be considered A great scientist today. Why is he a controversial figure in his day and age? Answer in a paragraph.

INVENTIONS:

Galileo Galilei ( ) Italian Scientist  Used the telescope to prove Copernicus’ theory.  Church banned his book.

Who Influenced Galileo?  Nicholas Copernicus ( ) was the first person to state that the sun was in the center of the universe.  Went against what the Church taught.

HELIOCENTRIC: The sun is in the center of the universe.

Ptolemy says “No way, Jose!”  Ptolemy lived 1500 years before Galileo.  The Church said that he was right in his theory (thoughts) that the Earth is in the center of the universe.

GEOCENTRIC: Earth is in the center of the universe.

The Church even put Galileo on trial for supporting the belief that the planets revolved around the sun!
