What country have you chosen? I chose Bosnia and Herzegovina – I was born there on 05/01/95 – My parents were born there on 01/22/69 and 10/19/67 – My Grandparents were born there. When? I have no Idea. – Etcetera, Etcetera, Etcetera All of my family is from here.( Every. Single. Person. Ever. )

Geography/Location Bosnia and Herzegovina are very mountainous and much of the landscape is covered with forests Elevation extremes – Lowest : Adriatic Sea is 0 meters tall and is located on the 20 km coast of Bosnia – Highest : Maglic is 2386 meters tall and is located in the Dinaric Alps

Government Bosnia and Herzegovina’s government is a growing democratic country where the people can vote for their governmental leaders One of the most famous leaders of Bosnia and Herzegovina is Tito

Languages There are many languages. – Some include: Bosnian: This is the most widely used Croatian: This is used by the population of Croatians that moved to Bosnia and Herzegovina Serbian: This language is used by the Serbs that moved here

Sports Basketball and football are popular sports in Bosnia and Herzegovina. Volleyball is also played. There are opportunities for sports such as mountain biking, hiking and rock climbing. In 1984 Sarajevo hosted the fourteenth Winter Olympic Games. Jahorina Mountain near Sarajevo, a centre for the Games, is one of Bosnia and Herzegovina's main venues for skiing and winter tourism.

Major Cities The 3 largest cities are: – Sarajevo: Population 400,000 Capitol City. Sarajevo has a lot of streets for just pedestrians ( like 16 th St. Mall. ) – Banja Luka: Population 250,000 The entire city area is full of tree-lined avenues, gardens and parks and resembles a green watercolor painting. – Tuzla: Population 165,000 Tuzla hosts the annual Meša Selimovi ć book festival (in July), where an award for the best novel written in the languages of Bosnia and Herzegovina, Croatia, and Serbia and Montenegro is presented.

Food The cuisine of Bosnia and Herzegovina is influenced by its Balkan neighbors. Traditional food includes bread, soups, stews, kebabs, cevapcici (minced meat sausages), stuffed leaves (dolma and sarma) and stuffed peppers. Pie(meat, cheese and spinach) is a favorite dish. Side dishes, such as sour cabbage, tomato and onion salad and yoghurt, are often served. Desserts eaten are fruit, pancakes, cakes and pastries. Coffee is preferred strong with sugar. Wine and beer is produced locally.

Celebrations All religious holidays are celebrated. Other days commemorated are Independence Day (from Yugoslavia) - 1 March and National Day - 25 November. – These are celebrated by big parties on the streets and big a get-together with family and friends and traditional foods

People Bosnia has no majority in a single ethnic group, the country is made up of 44 percent of Muslims, 31 percent of Serbs, 17 percent of Croats, 6 percent of Yugoslavs (people of mixed Muslim, Serb, and Croat ancestry), and 2 percent of others. Bosnia also has a small number of Roma (Gypsies) as well as a small section of Jews.

Culture The country has a rich and wonderful cultural heritage, where epic stories recited in the form of songs is famous through out Bosnia. The country is also famous for its love songs which have been used to express love over the centuries.

Climate Summers are hot and winters are cold; it is colder at the higher elevations. The coastline on the Adriatic has Mediterranean weather.

Climate Bosnia-Herzegovina's climate is different for each province. Herzegovina and the southern area has a modified Mediterranean climate with an average annual precipitation of 24 to 31.5 inches while the central and northern area of Bosnia has a modified Alpine climate with an average annual precipitation of 59 to 98 inches. Average temperature ranges in Sarajevo are from 31 degrees Fahrenheit in January to 67 degrees Fahrenheit in July.

Trivia Much of Bosnia and Herzegovina is mountainous with areas of karst (limestone). Maglic Mountain (2386 m), in the Sutjeska National Park, is Bosnia and Herzegovina's highest peak. The Sutjeska National Park, named after Sutjeska the mountain river, is Bosnia and Herzegovina's oldest National Park. In the second half of the fifteenth century the Ottoman Empire conquered Bosnia and Herzegovina. The name of the city of Tuzla is derived from the word "tuz", the Turkish for salt. Tuzla's salt comes from its salt water springs. Austria annexed Bosnia and Herzegovina in On 28 June 1914 the Serbian organization known as "the Black Hand" assassinated the heir to the Austrian-Hungarian throne in Sarajevo. This was one of the causes of the First World War ( ).
