Katie Nipp “A GIFT FROM FADIL” ACTIVITY

 Fadil’s older sister is getting married and Fadil’s younger sister is sad  Fadil and his little sister decide to give a gift to the older sister, Ikhlas, a gift  They want to give her a potted flower  They must design a package to fit the plant  They engineer a design and work hard to make a package  They test the plant in the box, but it becomes wilted  So Fadil and his little sister rethink their design and used fewer materials so the plant could breathe STORY

 For the Try It activity, I designed a box for a fragile vase  I decided that the box would be mailed, so I had to take that into consideration  In order to keep the vase safe with household materials I already had, I lined the inside of a box with cotton balls  I tried to make the cotton evenly spaced to provide the best protection for the vase TRY IT ACTIVITY

 Because the vase is a gift for a friend or family member, I decided to decorate the box like Fadil and his sister decorated their package TRY IT ACTIVITY CONT’D

 I think the book and activity are appropriate for elementary school students  The story is a little challenging, so not for children below third grade level  Activity could be done with younger students, but best for 3 rd, 4 th, or 5 th graders EVALUATION
