Mystery of Saturn's Walnut Moon Cracked?

Proposed Satellite Would Beam Solar Power to Earth

The Night Sky Monday, April 9 · The Big Dipper, high in the northeast, dumps water into the dim Little Dipper during evening at this time of year. Tuesday, April 10 · The bright star high to the upper right of Venus these evenings is Capella, the Goat Star. It's the same yellow-white color, and thus the same temperature, as the Sun. Wednesday, April 11 · With the Moon gone from the evening sky, it's deep-sky observing time again. Telescope users are familiar with the "Leo Trio" of galaxies (M65, M66, and NGC 3628) by the little chair asterism in the back leg of Leo. Can you detect M65 and M66 with binoculars? See Gary Seronik's Binocular Highlight column and map in the April Sky & Telescope, page 45. Thursday, April 12 · Also near the back leg of Leo is the asteroid 5 Astraea, about magnitude 9.6. Find it, along with 6 Hebe and 8 Flora also in Leo, using the charts in the April Sky & Telescope, page 52. Friday, April 13 · Summer preview: stay up till 11 and look northeast, and you'll get a preview of bright Vega, the "Summer Star" in little Lyra, climbing into good view. · Last-quarter Moon (exact at 6:50 a.m. on this date EDT).
