Collaborating with SMEs – some advice Don’t ask them because you need an SME involved – ask them because you need their expertise. We don’t want to be a “token” SME in a proposal. Review the SME website but be aware that this may not reveal all... Don’t expect the SME to write the proposal for you. Approach them early – at least 3 months before the submission deadline. Remember, SMEs are in business to make a profit – they will always look for the commercial output from a grant.
