Welcome To Physical Science 8 Miss Polignone’s Rules & Procedures

About Miss Polignone -1 st Year at K.O. Knudson Middle School -Just moved to Las Vegas in June! -From near Pittsburgh, PA -Graduated from Penn State and The University of Maryland -Also, currently in school at Northcentral University.. I love School! -This is my 9 th year teaching Science!! -I love Running!!

Classroom Rules Arrive on time and be in your seat when the bell rings! Be prepared for class with all the required materials. Engage in the learning environment. Be Respectful of peers, teachers, staff, and the classroom environment.

Objective Board The Objective and Essential Question will be written on the board daily– Copy the date and the EQ into your Science Interactive Notebook KO- Copy the KO in your notebook and answer the question. You only have the allotted time to complete the KO question! These will start next week! GO- At the end of class, copy the GO question and answer it in your notebook. Be prepared to discuss your ideas before leaving class! Don’t forget to record any homework assignments in your K.O. agenda before you leave class!

Beginning of Class First Five Minutes of Class: Get your Science Interactive Notebook. Be in your seat when the bell rings. The Objective and Essential Question will be written on the board daily– Copy the date and the EQ into your Science Interactive Notebook. Copy the KO in your notebook and answer the question. You have one entire song to complete the KO question! NO TALKING!!

Lectures Lectures: Raise your hand to ask questions. Keep focused on the lecture. Take notes in your Science Interactive Notebook.

Class Discussions Class Discussions: Be engaged. Raise your hand to speak. One person speaks at a time. Stay on task. Listen to others and be respectful of their opinions.

Videos Video Activities: Focus on the activity. Do not talk during the video. Keep your head up at all times. Work on the assignment given during the video.

Student-Centered Learning I act as the facilitator / coach Everyone must be engaged in the work. You will each have a job to do during group activities, so do your part! It is not acceptable for one person to do the work and others to watch. Respect the input of the other members of your group. Work through the problems together. We are here to help each other!

Independent Work Independent Work: Do your own work. Stay in your seat. When you’re done, read or work on another assignment.

Assessments Tests/ Quizzes: Keep your eyes on your own paper. Be honest.

End of Class Last Five Minutes of Class: GO- At the end of class, copy the GO question and answer it in your notebook. Be prepared to discuss your ideas before leaving class! Don’t forget to record any homework assignments in your K.O. agenda before you leave class! Clean up and put your notebook away.

Door Enter / Exit Enter in the front door and exit out of the back door!

Dismissal I dismiss you NOT the bell! Make sure your area is clean and orderly. Push in your chair!

Food / Drink No food or drink in the science lab, UNLESS I give you treats in class!

BYOD Policy Stop Light: Green means Go! Free choice and Devices are permitted Yellow means proceed with caution! Devices can be used for a Teacher Directed activity. Red means Stop! No devices allowed! On Green and Yellow Light days, all devices must remain face down on the corner of your desk until you are instructed on proper use and are cleared to use devices. On Red Light Days, If you are using an unauthorized device it will be taken and turned into the office. NO EXCEPTIONS!!

Edmodo Occasionally we will have assignments that will be posted on Edmodo. If you don’t already have an account, please sign up. I will give you information about log in and being able to join your class’s science group! You can receive and turn in work online through the Edmodo site! Please let me know if you do not have computer access at home, and we can make alternative arrangements!

Be Responsible! You are 8 th graders now! Be Responsible & do your work! Assignments- each day late, -10% After 5 days, the highest score you can receive is a 50% Grades will be posted in the classroom weekly– Check them BEFORE or AFTER class

Absentees/ Make-up Work Classwork/ Homework: It’s YOUR responsibility to find out what you missed before class and to make arrangements to make up the material after class. Check the Missed Work area in the classroom for handouts missed during your absence. And, see a responsible classmate to get the notes you missed. Tests/ Quizzes: If you are absent the day of a quiz/test, you must make up the test on the day you return. If you are absent the day before a test/quiz, you will be given the review material the day you return and you will be expected to make up the test/quiz during the next school day. Late Assignments: All work should be turned in on time! Any late work will receive 10% off each day it is late. After the 5 th day, it is no longer worth any credit! Make up Work: At the end of each week, all extra handouts will be labeled and placed in the top drawer of my filing cabinet. If you need an extra handout or have make up work to complete, please check the filing cabinet.
