 Using images to demonstrate the symbols in a story.

 Seasons can be used as symbols in stories in different ways.  In The Secret Garden, the seasons can be seen as symbols to represent characters growth and changes that are taking place in the characters.

 Go to my website  Honors Language Arts 8  Find today’s date (Wednesday, December 16)  Upload assignment to Pages.

 Images should be of the moors and set in the winter and spring time. They should be of the natural world.  Begin with winter and then move into spring.  The fifth image is one to represent their relationship.

 Provide the following information:  The artist’s name  The work of art italicized  The date of creation  The institution and city where the work is housed.  The name of the Website in italics.  The medium (Web.)  And the date you accessed it.

Goya, Francisco. The Family of Charles IV Museo Nacional del Prado, Madrid. Museo National del Prado. Web. 22 May If web only: brandychloe. "Great Horned Owl Family." Photograph. Webshots. American Greetings, 22 May Web. 5 Nov

 These are to be shorter paragraphs. I’m looking for depth not breadth.  In other words go deeper with your analysis, not off in several tangents. Pick something to focus on and FIND THE BIG PICTURE IDEA. Don’t pitter patter around dabbling in several different shallow ideas in your paragraph.  Remember, pick the BEST quote, briefly state what the quote means. Make your inferences and connections to what you know that the quote doesn’t present on its own, and then evaluate the quote. Share your big picture idea with the reader.  Always remember topic and concluding sentences.  Transitions are important. Vary them.

 Remember how you bugged me about grammar and writing skills?  Well, so yeah, those two online quizzes were supposed to help you become more aware of basic skills especially with word use like “their,” “there,” and “they’re” and comma usage.  Expect to spend more time thinking about the words you are choosing and pick the RIGHT word carefully.  Place your commas carefully. It is okay to go back and retake those quizzes…as many times as it takes.

 Work time today, Thursday (after SSR, of course), and Friday.  And remember…
