Murder Mystery Every murder has to incorporate three things: motive, means, and opportunity. Motive- Why the murder was committed Means- How the victim was killed Opportunity- When the murder happened, the killer had to have been able to commit the crime

Murder Mystery When coming up with a murder, you have to work backwards. Have the main point of the story Know the killer Figure out why the killer’s incentive Create “clues” that would help the main character solve the murder Come up with suspects Put obstacles in the character’s way

Murder Mystery Writing Techniques Work backwards Put yourself in place of the character Establish relationships between the victim and other characters Make the murder realistic and believable Use who, what, when, where, why, how

Characterization Main Character Name: Sullivan Chase Age/birthday: 17- born July 16 th Looks: Wavy, brown hair Green eyes Personality: Smart Resourceful Determined Inquisitive Other Important Characters Ava Penson- victim Jamie Chase- sister Lily Marcovich-best friend Carter Chance- Lily’s friend Paige Avern Amy Houser- friend she recently meets Jane Duvello-school principal Brett Gray- police intern

Plot Sullivan has a dream that she is underwater, but no matter how hard she tries to get air, something holds her back. At the dance the next day, the principal announces that one of the students-Ava Penson- has died and was found in the lake nearby. Sullivan knows it is too much of a coincidence to her dream, and wants to find out what really happened. Carter and Lily help her get to Ava’s file to get more information, and uncover the killer. Meanwhile, Sullivan is constantly being haunted by her dream, and thinks she is seeing Ava’s ghost.
