 What came first: Slavery or Racism?  Write down your response and defend it.  Move to the side of the room that you chose: Slavery or Racism  Talk with those around you and make 3 valid points to your argument from prior knowledge and understanding. RESPOND TO THE FOLLOWING:

 Make a chart with two columns:  1. Economic needs caused slavery  2. White racism shaped slavery  Use the arguments of historians from the past 50 years (from your textbook) to justify both viewpoints.  Ask: Which particular view is most persuasive? How and why?
