Career Development Discussion Job Aid Structure Self- “Spark” Support Background Career Development is a 3-Way Partnership between TECO, the coach and the team member. TECO provides the structure and environment through our: Respect for Others - We value differences, development, teamwork, open communications and continuous learning. Achievement with a Sense of Urgency – We work, as a team toward common goals, while accepting ownership and personal responsibility for our actions. The coach provides the support by coaching and listening, but ultimately, career development is in the hands of the individual. We are all responsible for “sparking” our own careers. Coach Role Provide support by helping your team member answer the questions on the following page and by remembering the 5 A’s: 1) Appreciate the uniqueness of the individual. Know your people. (Use Key Principles) 2) Assess Capabilities – Evaluate current performance; broaden perspective of reputation within the organization 3) Anticipate the future –Communicate workplace changes 4) Align Aspirations – Help team member set SMART goals 5) Accelerate Learning – Support Development Plans Team Member Role Self- spark your development by considering the 5 P’s: 1)Person – Know Your Strengths – How am I unique? 2)Performance – Know Your Reputation – What are my current capabilities? 3)Place – Know Your Environment – How is the World of Work changing? 4)Possibilities – Set SMART Goals – What are my aspirations?
